But one thing I can't stand about those 'twist' wheels is that the two sides twist in wrong directions -- the driver side twist in the direction of rotation, but the passenger side would twist opposite the direction of rotation. It's not like anyone would ever see the two sides at once, but just knowing it's not right makes me feel uncomfortable...

Specialty Concrete: Those are beautiful, is what they are!
...oh were you looking for the technical name? sorry!
They look big, though. Maybe it's the angle.
Personally, IMHO, I think anything over 17" doesn't look right on the 944.......just my .02!

Well I too am dealing with the wheel dilemma.. I have a set of 996 turbo twist replicas (18", 8's and 10's) that id be willing to trade for a good set of 17 inch wheels. Anything listed above would be considered. I suppose that was a hijack... unless you want to buy the twists (:

My 17" Ronal ACT's. I've been told the BBS look is "period correct".
I think I'll go out for a drive.

Since you asked for affordable wheels on a black car. Cup I's polished 17x7.5 and 17x9. I think they look awesome.

I will confess upfront that I prefer stock Porsche wheels. My current 951 had a beautiful set of BBS wheels but I told the previous owner he might as well keep them for his new Turbo S, as i would probably just mount my 16 inch Design 90s or the stock 16 inch phone dials.
Also I think those are good choices if you are looking to keep it under $1K. They are pretty available.
I do like the look of those phone dials painted black. Maybe I will do that with my spare 16 inch phone dials.

Allergic2milk... those are 18" CCW's... I absolutely LOVE that car.... the guy wanted to sell it a year or so ago & it only had ~75k on it- copenhagen blue 1989 w/AIR spolier, those wheels, etc... he backed out of the sale I think b/c I never heard from him again...
Mark- while it may be true that all manufacturers are dif, they are extremely close- the only reason for variance is b/c the manufacturers sometimes can't measure correctly, OR, measure from dif points... the fact is, a 225mm wheel should equal a 225mm wheel... the middle # is always percent, & the last #, as you know, is in inches & refers to the diamter... Some of these tire manufacturers have lists that show their RD & some show their RD by dif methods, but either way, a 285/35/18 is going to be a WAY larger RD than ANY 255/40/17 you'll find... but, if you can find a good tire that will not rub in that size, PLEASE let me know... I want to match that to get a 245/40/18 up front, so that the front RD will be slightly smaller than the rear, instead of slightly taller. Otherwise, I'm going to be looking for a 275/35/18 w/a 235/40/18, when / IF I ever get my Fikses... I like the Profile 13's on these cars, personally...
Mike Buck- what happened to the Fikses...? Got a pic of those for us...??
Steve- what are those- are they Fikses...?
I like Kinesis too, but they are a little bulkier lookinng to me, in 3-piece form & tend to look better on 911's IMO... I've seen a few pics of Simmons wheels, which look much like CCW's IMO & I think both of those look very nice... would LOVe to find out how much they weigh in several dif standard sizes... like an 18X10 & an 18X8...?
The 16" Cup 1's look much dif than the 17" Cup 1's, for some reason- the spokes are much narrower... I don't like them as much... I also don't like the new 996 lightwewights much either- I don't hate them, but I just think they are too open-faced- especially w/stock sized rotors... Go to 13.5"+ rotors & they'd look better, but then you'd add back more weight than you could ever remove...
Again, the hollow spokes look great, but moreso on the driver side...
Great pics guys... Some of these are excellent reference shots...

Robby, as you say, there is some variance from one manufacture to another. A 285/35/18 has a RD of at least 1/2" taller the 255/40/17, while the factory size of 285/30/18 is just under a 1/4" shorter. In my case, I'm going to be running 996TT hollowspokes with Pirelli PZero 225/40/18 and 295/30/18. The specs show that all these tires are exactly 25" each new. And we haven't factored in wear on the tires, if it's even much of a factor.

Joseph- that's EXACTLY what I've been saying about the hollow spokes... they are not directional- the driver side looks right, but not the passenger..
Mark- what made you pick these sizes, just out of curiosity...? The 225's aren't really helping much up front... PLUS, the front is larger than the rear... that annoy's the hell out of me... I've crunched the #'s forever on this & there's no way to win 100%... The 285/35/18 is closer to .8" taller than 255/40/17 & is more than a full inch taller than the Turbo S 245/45/16 & right at an inch taller than regular turbo 225/50/16.. ALSO, for a street car, you're running a pretty low profile by going much below 100mm unless you have smooth roads- the 285/35 is BARELY under... the 275/35 would be fine IMO, but can't run a 245 u[p front then- would have to do a 235/40/18... that's annoying, but at this point, unless I can find a better alternative, it's what I plan to do.... Would still rather find a way to run 285/35/18 & 245/40/18... Another way to do it would be to run something like a 275/35/18 & then a 245/40/17 up front, BUT, this might scew up the ABS.. would also STILL have a slightly taller profile up front, but that wouldn't be too bad, as long as the RD were not larger... It's a completely impossible balance... Not sure it's impossible for other cars, but in the size range of our stagggered rims, it is... Anyway, if you're really going to run a 295/30/18, & the profile does not bother you, etc, then, why not run a 245/35/18 front...? Then you get the added turn-in & better front traction for lateral & deceleration...? I'm just curious... not knocking anything here...
