Default Sheered Stub Axle

Wasnt ANYTHING I thought it was, I've NEVER seen a failure (or heard of one for that matter) like this on a 951. It just DOESNT happen. It is sliced right in half in the middle of the splines like it was red hot and someone took a butter knife to it. Perfectly clean cut. Insanity.

I swear when i posted about sheared stub shaft the spline failure someone posted later seemed more likely. To work harden and embrittle something that thick there must have been some serious source of heat before hand. The splines normally should fail first. Any chance the hub nut was torqued too far causing binding on the bearing? If you have a pic of the fractured ends at the failure I'd like to see them. Knowing if it was a brittle or ductile failure would be good to know for next time. At least stubs are cheap, I have two goods ones if you can't hook up with one locally.

Very impressive. I have seen 2 stub axles shear off. On the same car no doubt. 19 year old owns a 79 930 with an Andial package, putting out some pretty good hp. He was pulling out of the Kansas I-70 toll booth and wanted to impressive the chick in the booth, so he did a 6k clutch drop. Pow....stranded at the toll booth. Oh, and he had about 50 miles on his brand new clutch.

2nd time he was drag racing a mustang and did another 6k clutch drop. That time he got to replace the stub axle and the clutch. I have the both sitting at the office in the "Hall of Shame"

Doc.... we wont discuss where this happened, as I couldnt care less about if people from rennlist think it's "ok" or not. But on 17psi, shutting down at the 1000' mark I trapped 117mph with still pleanty left in the car.
