Front caliper siezed!

Front caliper siezed!
I got a call from the Porsche dealer stating that my right front caliper is siezed and the left is somewhat seized and the fluid is old and boiled and that the two rears need to be disassmenble and cleaned of the rust. That also includes new rotors and sensors and pads in front. The car is only worth 4,500! I am having them put in a temp. sensor for the overheating problem.
I asked to have him put on a new caliper and do a fluid flush. But being the dealer they want to do it all so they aren't liable for an accident. What would you guys do?
$1650 for all the work on the fronts to make them perfect and $250 to clean up the rears from rust. I'm going to try to find a place to do the brakes (corner garage) I think. The pads are somewhat new (thought the seized caliper's is lower from it applying the brake all the time).

Pick up the car before they do any work pay for the cost it took for them to diognoise the problems and then buy referb calipers of buy the referb kits and rebuild them yourself. You should be able to do all that work including new routers and pads for under $1000. That or find a repuptable shop that deals with porsches with a person who knows the 44 series who will do what you want.

Yeah, heck, even rebuilding the calipers yourself isn't that hard - it's just all the cleaning. Kits are cheap. But hey, why not get them done, it's not a bad idea. Time to make some local P-car acquaintances - perfect opportunity for a weekend wrenching session! The only real challenging thing about the job is getting a good bleed; that takes only practice.
Consider also changing out the hoses, putting in new stainless braided hoses. They do wonders for pedal feel.

I just got two 'new' rebuilt front calipers from paragon for $50 each. No core is needed so you can still rebuild your old ones in your spare time... Was a no brainer decision for me... they look like brand new!

1. Go to Paragon Products and get a list of parts you need. New/rebuilt calipers, new rotors, sensors, oem brake lines, new brake pads, any misc hardware for the calipers.
2. Find an independent Porsche mechanic and ask them if they don't mind you supplying your own parts for them to install. Get them to tell you what their hourly rate is and an estimate to fit new/rebuilt parts from Paragon.
3. Compare with quote from dealer.
See how much you will save and make a decision.
Approx $2000 for a brake rebuild seems excessive to me.
You should be able to get rebuilt calipers, new rotors, hardware and new pads front and rear for less that $700 easy.
Get someone to fit then shouldn't be more than $3-400.
Good Luck
Rob
86 944NA (rebuilt calipers, new rear rotors(Porsche genuine), new ceramic composite pads, new oem brake lines all up cost AU$700.

If this is a 951 you could spend $2,000 on a brake job real easily. Last I looked new calipers were going for $1,000 a pair and rebuild kits are scarce. Add in $100 for a set of pads, and rotors at about $125 per and bingo $2,000.
