Smile Another 944 is brought back from the dead

Hey all. I bought this car from a Rennlister about a year ago in which it had a destroyed motor. I spent the winter completely rebuilding the engine which came from my donor car. Everything was replaced - seals, bearing, rings, clutch, hoses. Finally got everything back together this weekend. Almost achieved a start on the first try. Turned out I had the reference sensors backwards. The only problem I'm having at the moment is with the fuel system. The only way it will start after sitting awhile is to jumper the DME relay and force the fuel pump to run. Is this the FPR or the check valve? The best part is no leaks and it runs great. I drove it 100 feet down my driveway and into the field to take a picture. Woo hoo. I'm waiting on new tie rod ends, then I'll get it registered and inspected.

I never rebuilt an engine before so anybody contemplating it shouldn't be too intimidated. It takes a lot of work and meticulous attention to detail, but wasn't that difficult. Thanks for any help along the way.

Here's a picture of the car. It is no beauty, but it was not meant to be. It's a twenty foot car. It will either become my daily driver or become my track car. I haven't decided yet. Time to work out all the bugs and tweak it to my liking.

Thanks for looking!

congrats. rebuilding is fun, isn't it? sounds like you did a better job than i did if it almost started the first time around and no leaks.

Well I spoke too soon. One of my hoses on the radiator is leaking now after a couple of heat cycles. No big deal. I guess I'll go through all the clamps and give them a little more.

Joe, I really liked your 4 inch PVC end cap as the rear main seal installer. That "tool" is going in my Porsche tool box.
