Default Engine fan will not shut off!

my 1990 994s2's engine fan will not sut off, even if its on "accessories" amd the car is not running, the fan is still on... at idle its still on, when driving its still on...

whats the deal? temp switch? ive had it shut off only once or twice. motor runs perfect and a at below-normal temp ( due to fans always being on )

temp switch on the radiator most likely. just below the two hoses on the alternator side of the radiator. Probably need to pull the cooling fans to get to it but that is pretty easy.

I had the same issue a couple years back.. I just put a big pan under the car and pulled took the switch out and put in the new one really quickly.. Didn't have to take the radiator fan out or anything. Spilled a little coolant, but like I said, I had a pan down so it didn't make too much of a mess. You need a 29mm deep socket.

Yeah you don't need to take out teh cooling fans if you use a socket. I don't have that size socket so to use an adjustable open end wrench i had to take off teh cooling fans. I'll second doing it quick and you won't lose much coolant. Just did it last night.

Same here, pull the plug out of the dam and replace it as fast as you can. You don't get too wet

it'll only drain down to the bottom of the switch. take notice where the level is in the expansion tank and refill it to that point and you might not need to bleed it.

i did it on ramps with a deep socket and didn't remove the fans/shroud.

Yup, thermofan switch most likely. Pull the fuses when you stop until you get to fixing it to save your battery. On the 'S' I found that removing the fans was definitly the way to go. Don't know about the S2.
