Default Side Mirror...glass fell off!

I can't believe it, I wash and wax my car and when I close the driver side door, the side mirror glass falls out and breaks into two pieces on the ground. I then call all around town to find a replacement glass and nobody can find me one or is willing to cut one for me. Why is this so hard to find a glass shop who will cut a 6 X 4 inch piece of mirror? Have all the trade craftsmen gone on strike?

Can anyone tell me where I can get a glass other than from Porsche who wants to sell me one for $74?

I take it just the glass fell out of the frame which attaches to the motor?

Same thing happened to me at a stop light. I payed the $80 and just moved on. The part you get for $80 is more than just the mirror glass. Its also the plastic back that mounts into the mirror housing. Still, its expensive for what it is.

I bought brand new glass with adhesive from 20th Street auto in Phoenix for $28. Safelite is also a distributor.

Be sure to check the mirror on the other side too. My second mirror fell off about two weeks after the first.

You are better off buying a new mirror glass. Apparently the adhesive has now reached the end of its life on most of the original mirrors. I bought a used mirror and the glass fell out on my first bump. Third time truly is a charm!

Same damn thing just happend to me. I checked Autozone.com and they have a replacement glass for $17.99. It's special order though. I'll probably just call the store just to see if they have one in stock. If not I'll have them order it.

I found a better solution. I called 44andmoreparts.com and they have a few mirrors w/ backplate for sale $25. They said the they take about 2 minutes to change out.

Mine fall out every couple years. I just super glue the bastards back in place. Actually.....only 1 has fallen off of my 951 since I owned it (3 years).
