Rattle while idling...
I noticed I have a rattle while not in gear. Once I put in gear she goes away. Doesnt sound like something I wanna continue to hear. Whats the noise whats involved in fixing in time and money. Thanks in advance.

Nothing Abnormal, the 5th gear in these cars have a smaller toleracne then the ohtere gears and rattle more. I call it "The floating 5th gear syndrome" Actually back in the late eighties I believe, Porsche actually released a TSB about not covering this item on warrenty because the noise was quite common normal in these cars. One thing that people have suggested is to point Synthic gear oil in thee things and it quites them down quite a bit, I am putting in M1 75w90 tommorrow and hopefully it will quite it down some.

Please know that these transmissions are originally designed as 4 speed for the Audi 100. The 5th is added to the original design much later. This gear set requires larger tolerances to compensate for the thermal expantion of the transmission.
This resulted in the famous "lay shaft ratle", unique to the 944. (This 5 gear transmission was also installed in the later Audi's but they did not have the noise)
Porsche stopped handling this under warranty way back when...
If level is OK, and you are 100% sure it is not something stupid like a heat shield or the exhaust hitting something, you might want to try an teflon based additive or a different viscosity oil.
