Default Changing rear torsion bars

Who in the S.F. Bay Area is the best place with the most reasonable price to change out my rear torsion bars on my 1988 944? My mechanic told me $700 which is rated at 7 hours worth of work but took him 12 hours on the last 944 that he worked on.

6-7 hours seems to be typical for that job, and $100-$120/hour is a common rate for Porsche specalists in the SF Bay Area.

So that quote seems reasonable to me.

Karl.

I am slowly converting my car to a Spec944 so that I might consider racing in the near future. My stock torsion bars feel very soft but I would expect that with 156K miles on the motor and suspension.
I recently changed over to a 1989 951s adjustable suspension and swaybars but I think I will probably go all out and get what other racers have. Kind of a waste of money changing things out so quickly.

You might want to try Elephant Racing in San Jose. He is well versed in this replacement and makes some excellent after suspension market options for the 944.
