You are too far for me to help physically. Post pictures of the damage and we can give you better ideas as whether its feasible or practical to fix it. Normally low mileage mint condition 944 prices increase exponentially and not linearly. I think Tom R. had a few threads that are very helpful concerning dealing with insurance companies. He may be able to chime in and shed some light.

 

I don't have access to the car right now...it's at the insurance company. If I end up getting it back, I'll post pictures before I decide what to do with it.

 

I would sure like to see a few close up pictures of the problem area in the fuel rail. Does the corrosion occur from the outside or inside?

 

If I get the car back, I'll post pictures...I'm leaning towards taking a reduced payment and the car, then either selling the car or finding someone who's willing to fix it on el cheapo. I don't have the cash to pay a porsche mechanic to fix everything.

 

You also have to ask yourself -- how valuable is your time and how valuable is your garage space. Are you prepare to blow away a few weekends? Can you afford to have a project car sitting around?

I hate to say it, but depending your own labor rate and rent on your own space, it might turn out to be that it's most cost effective to take the money and run....

 

there's some good wrenchers out here in NorCal (not me, i suck. the only think i'm good at is getting bolts off, and carrying stuff).

i'm sure if you put out a call for help and offer pizza and beer your car could be back on the road in no time.

 

Are these fuel rail leaks common for newer 944's? What is the cost of replacing the old fuel lines and rails with new/better ones?

 

Hmmm...good question, maybe someone else knows about pricing here. It looks like there's been at least 3 or 4 cars that have recently had the same fuel rail problem. I'm considering selling the salvage as a nice little project for someone. It'd be nice if someone could get it back on the road.

i got 5k for the t-boned 87944S a year ago feb, right from the kelly blue book + the car and paid nothing for salvaqe and the "S" came out with a salvage title.

if your insurance totals it i doubt if they will insure it.

take the stereo out and whatever you want and wave goodbye with a tear in your eye.

I agree. If the insurance company offers you even $3K +, take it and run. If you choose to buy back the car, pay no more than $500 and part the car. With the cash, you can buy another one and then some.
