Hatch Gasket Installation Tips?
I'm planning on replacing my hatch gasket so I got a new one and it's in the form of a big ring rather than a straight piece. Since it's a ring there's a difficulty in installation: the wire for the 3rd brake light is in the way and there doesn't appear to be any connector to disconnect. What have you guys done?
I know I can cut the wires and splice them back, but I thougth there might be a more elegant solution. Also, I'd prefer to leave the gasket in the ring form rather than cutting it.
Thanks,
Paul

Paul, Just installed my new one also...... Look very closely where the gasket would be above latch. Some actually do come apart here and then can slide back together. The one I removed was like this

The third brake light wire(and rear wiper wire) go into the boby of the car through a gromet. Take the gromet out to expose the hole in the body. This wire ends up where the sunroof motor is. Take a few of the round clips that hold the carpet in and pull back on the carpet to expose the sunroof motor area. You should see a small cylindrical connector with two(or four) wires. Unpug the connector and start pulling the wire through the body opening where you took the grommet out of. Once you get the wire/s out, put the new seal on and then put the wires back in and button everything back up.

aribop: I'll try this. It looks like the solution.
2bridges: My old gasket does indeed have this split, but the new one is bonded together giving it the loop format.
Thanks guys!
