Default Driver Mirror broke!

Anyone know how to fix the drivers side mirror. The threaded bolt on the swivel poped out and now the mirror is dangling!!! I took the entir mirror apart so now it is just a staff and a base any idea how to thread the bugger back in?

there is a little piece of half stock steel with a threaded hole in it that is on the inside of your door, it is held in place by a little metal strap and a pin, pull the pin and take out the 1/2" stock steel and try to get the rest of the bolt out. i was unable to do that and had to make a new one and tap a hole. i believe it is a standard thread m8 bolt and hole.

Wiz, he's talking about where the mirror bolts to the base, not where the mirror assembly bolts to the door. See if this might help to get the mirror back together: http://www.951motorsports.com/. If not, you might need to buy an assembly. If you need one, let me know.

oops, i read that too fast. sorry about that.

If the spring is still in one piece, its a matter of man handling it to thread it back on against the force of the spring

That's a pretty tough little spring. I have yet to see someone put one together bare handed.

I tried to put it back, but you can not fit a tool down there. I tried a screw driver and an old drum brake adjusting tool as well as a pair of pliers. I can not get it to bite. Why did they do it that way and yes everything looks fine but who knows wheter the threads are still good. I will report back, thanks for the help Wiz and aribrop.

One problem is I can not do this because I still have the wiring in the mirror. Can I disconnect insid the door panel and remove the harness from the mirror?

No - the disconnect is behind the mirror glass. Never tried the "procedure" on the flag mirrors. But the principle is the same. The flags are somewhat easier to "man handle" than the Aeros. Mainly because they are old and shaped in a way that allows extra leverage. Well, that and you "usually" don't have to worry about fresh paint. I have been able to connect the two havles of a flag mirror without a tool - just never a new set of Aeros. Best of luck.
