Default whats this part for?

hey to everyone i own a 84 944 porsche pretty mint condition exept for small maintiance issues. anyways my question is what is the spool looking thing in the back of the engine kinda looks like a thread spool and had wires coming out of each side? what is it for? why i ask is because its broken in half just hanging there? thanks for the help

Sounds like your connection for the oxygen sensor. If it's broken, your O2 sensor doesn't work.

what does that cause??? the car runs perfect it dosnt seem to be causing any problems?

It'll make it run rich and it'll make it tough to pass emissions. You probably don't see great gas milage without it. Other than that, yes it's likely drivable. A new sensor is $30 and standard wire is pretty cheap. Hopefully you can use the pin connector, I've never priced one out.

well i went outside to look at it to see if it was repairable dosnt look like it the rubber plug end is just broke off and then the other side hads no wires connected to it. I have the haynes manual but it dosnt say 2 much about this. is this somthing that i need to worry about can it cause problems later on???
