Default Strut question

I need to replace my front struts. I currently have a set of green Bilsteins with blue dust covers. Does anyone know what type they are? Do i need to replace the whole unit or just an insert?

I replaced just the inserts on my early 85 with new Bilsteins. Also added new springs but retained orig height. Nice improvement.

It depends what year your car is. If its an '87 n/a or '86 951..then you will have a sealed strut. Earlier cars had just a insert.

It is however possible to modify the strut housing to fit an aftermarket strut in, like a Koni or Bilstien.

Sorry, should have given more info. It's an 87 951. I got the struts years ago from Windward.
