Default exhaust fumes in the car

I've been getting exhaust fumes in the car and it's annoying. Is this because of a cracked exhaust pipe or just because of leaking oil from the valve cover gasket (yes mine has a slow leak) ?

It could be those 2 or it could be the gas sender on top on the tank, under the carpet in the rear hatch, it the seal is old on the sender it could put fumes in the car.

I'd check the hatch first. Make sure it is closing tight, both pins. How is the seal?

I was sure it was comming from the fron of the car... but I'll check the hatch it doesnt shut correctly and sometimes opens on its own if I dont slam it down. You don't think its the oil leak on the exhaust manifold?

Do you see oil on the exhaust manifold, or smoke coming from the engine? If not, it might be the seal. I know on my 951 when I stop at a traffic light the exhaust just drafts right into the drive side window.

It is very common to get exhaust in the cabin if you don't have a good seal on the hatch. You may need to adjust the pins to get a better fit or even a new seal if the old one is tired.

"sometimes opens on its own if I dont slam it down."

Mine did that when I bought it. I had to lube and losen the latches. The bolts on one of them was tightened down so tight that the latch wouldn't grab the pin.

I also get a gas or exhaust smell in mine to. Checked the gas sender and it appeared okay.

Well just my personal preference, but I don't like them. To me they don't look like they belong on a Porsche. PO put them on. I have them on my to replace list.

I was lucky enough to get mine with the car, along with 5 phone dials. I also have turbo twists but I need new tires for them and they are rather expensive so until I can make a trip to the flee market or find some cheap I will use these bbs rims. They are actually lighter weight than the 18" turbo twists. I also done have the center covers on them and I think they look better this way.

btw: I fixed the hatch by adjusting the tightness of the seal and the exhaust problem is gone... thanks guys!

This is done by adjusting the two bolts to the minimum length possible while still allowing them to catch and hold the hatch securely closed. My drivers side one closed by allowed just a slight gap if tested and this let in the exhaust fumes into the cabin.
