does this apply to an 88 924S as well? b/c i know for certain that it does have a lower 5th gear vs. my 85 944. and if it does have the same tranny as the 88 944, i know for a fact that I'm at 6k at 135mph (in the 924S)and so it is inconceivable to do any more than 140. and in reality it just wont get there (140) on a flat road, i know i've tried. although i wonder how fast i'd get going if i used the nitrous...? but all i'll do is wonder because i'm too much of a ***** when it comes to that.

lol well its not like you leisurely look down at your tach! i've only tried to top the car out twice but these cars hanlde so well anyways at those speeds that it's not that big of a deal to check you're speed/tach. of course only do that when no1 else is around.

I've got up to 230 KMs per hour "143 MPH" on my 86 944na. The last 10 kms took quite a while to get to though. My speedo does read about 10 kms high so 220 kms '"135 MPH". Yes the 944 na should do an honest 130 MPH if it is running up to spec.

138 mph according to the GPS, gotta love the autobahn where you can do it legally.

Was pulled over by a Texas State Trooper (well, I pulled over for him as soon as I passed him) and he had an indicated 137, the speedo showed over 140 (142ish) but it was optimistic. Oddly enough, he didnt even write me a warning.

That was in my old 85.5

Seems like Anders and I are the only ones to have hit 130 legally.

His on the autobahn and mine on race track.

fastest I ever took it was 110 and backed off... it was a mountain road and 110 felt to be the appropriate max speed for the road. I was catching up with my river canoe trip that was two hours ahead of me. I caught up.

i am really surprised that no one has started yelling about this topic, my guess to that is that many respected rennlist members started chatting about it, rather that a newbie with 10 posts. lol

off topic though, i would really like to start racing, but it just seems overwhelming to start get your car ready for the meets, let alone sign up and pay for everything. whats the easiest way i could start racing? autoxing with the SCCA?

Autocross with your local PCA. SCCA in my opinion tends to be much more competitive.

What race track is that long? The last 5 mph probably took 2-3 minutes or sot at full throttle waiting for a bit of a downhill..

i really dont think my local PCA does that much, they have their big "Spring Carerra Classic" twice a year, but i dont see any autox, just random get to geathers at bars 'n such.

and sweanders are u serious that it took that much to get those last 5mph, i would have thought a turbo would do a lot better than that.
