I routinely hit 5600 to 5800 RPM in 5th gear in my 944 spec car at on the banking at cal speedway.

Given the short 5th and 225/50 R15 tires I figure that to 127 to 130 or so. I did see 6000 RPM once in 5th, but that was when I caught a draft just right.

Do realize that speedometers tend not to be 100% accurate in cars, especially in older cars.

Excellent! Even I'm excited to see it back on the road!

I've acutally never taken my 944 over 4400 in 5th gear and that was passing someone in a corrolla who kept on going on the Mass Pike on the way home from picking it up. Don't exactly know how fast as my speedo was busted the month I drove the car...

My other N/A does 100 under 8 sec

130 mph indicated with early 85 model (long flat road). As I recall, it was a toss up between redline in 4th or not enough hp in fifth to redline.

it was on a very slight downhill section of I-20 right when i get off the onramp. take the onramp to 3rd redline. then 4th redline (115-120mph) with the tall 5th gear when i would shift to 5th the car would peg at 120 and not move. with the lower fifth i think that since im at a higher rpm at the same speed it puts me in a better powerband and the needle just keeps going...and so does the car. i doubt that im only REALLY going 130 or something. cause its freekin fast. and scary. i dont do it much anymore. atlanta has gotten crowded lately.

btw. if noone has the 87 (i believe) tranny with the shorter fifth. GET IT! lol.

88, 89 and S 944s have the shorter fifth.

[QUOTE=Campeck]what do the pistons have to do with it? compression?

QUOTE]

what i am saying is, with the amout of horsepower possible with 9.7:1 compression on a flat road, 140 is pushing it, 150 impossible. indicated vs. actual is a different story
