Default Muffler Choices

I'm planning on replacing my exhaust. I'm looking to have 2.5" exhaust made up from the cat back. However, I can't decide on a muffler.

I've done searches and have ended up more confused then when I started. You'll find there are as many opions on this as there are selections of mufflers.

I figured I take a poll. These are the ones I've narrowed it down to.

Ive got the Borla XR-1 on my car right now, its a 2.5'' catback, not a full system. Sounds great however it is significantly louder than stock. If your up to taking a ride, come down to the Nassau Collesium this sunday, ill be autocrossing...you are welcome to hear a few revs and ill take you for a ride around the block with it.

Sounds good. I'll actually be there as well. I'll introduce myself.

Yeah. That was me.

Actually there was another red 944 with cookie cutters too, so it depends which one you saw. I'm the one with Design 90's (see my pic).

I have the Flowmaster 40 on a 3" cat-less Lindsey exhaust.
Too much sound for me. OK for short trips, but I get tired of the sound on 1hr+ trips.
I'm thinking about getting something a tad more quiet.

I have a magna flow on my 944s and it sounds good. Not as load as a Speed force racing cat back, but nice and deep.

Do you know which model you have? (Round or Oval? Size?)

What works for some is to put dual mufflers on it. Use a y-pipe and put two mufflers out the back.

It eliminates the "harsh" sound alot of aftermarket mufflers have, but still has an agressive note...

It worked for my friend's Celica, it sounds like he dropped several grand when all it cost was two ebay glasspacks and a piece of y pipe. 80 bucks.

That should make four red 944's total!

The 944 class is huge already, i believe if everyone who usually runs shows up also...it can be up to nine cars!

The B&B is a nice sounding/looking muffler but isn't much better flowing then stock. On the dyno a 400 RWHP 951 picked up approximatly 10HP by switching from a B&B to a magnaflow (I believe it was 14 but will have to check the dyno chart as it was about 4 years ago so it could have been 7). These were back to back runs. I have the B&B on my own car and replaced with an Edelbrock RPM.
