Default Noise from braking [pic]

When I touch the brake pedal, independant of how hard, I here a distinct single click comming from the right rear caliper area. I looked and nothing seems out of the ordinary; however, the little tensioning assembly that holds the two pins in place in the caliper is broken. There is a rivet that holds the two parts that comprise it together and it's missing.

I can jiggle it slightly back and forth with my fingers but can't make it come close to freeing. This is the only thing that I can think of that could be the cause of the "click." The question is, can missing that rivet cause a failure of the brake?

I'm not sure if those pins are replacable or not, but I wouldn't recommend prolonged driving. Do you have access to a used caliper?

It's not the pins, its the metal spring that keeps tension on them. Here is a pic:

That piece is missing the rivit which allows me to move the two halves almost independantly a few millimiters.

Why not just pop revit the two halves back together?

Frankly i would just change that retaining spring...you dont even need to take the pads out to do it, very simple.

But if you insist on running it like that still, as long as those retaining pins dont come out i dont think it would cause a serious brake failure. The rear calipers on a stock 944 only do about 1/3 of the work anyhow. But then again...they are your BRAKES, do you really want to skimp out?

I will definetly be getting this fixed. Problem is I already tried to simply drill a sheet metal screw through the two pieces only to have 4 screws strip. I'd like to pop rivet it but don't have access to a rivet gun. I will however see if the machine shop at my school can help me out now that I think about it.

The other problem is that I have a DE this Sat so I can't have the car out of commission waiting for a part to arrive.
