Default Identifying pistons?

I now have a couple boxes full of pistons hanging out here. How do I identify which pistons go where? How do I identify the desirable 88 high compression. Are S2 and 968 and S all the same, I have a few 16 valve pistons too. Thanks!

also, are all 16 valve hydraulic lifters the same? I have a couple of nearly new sets of those, and a used set of 8v used set.

Bump.

I've been wondering the same thing. Is there a difference between early and late pistons?
Here's what I know: I have some with a big oval dish, I'm assuming they are turbo pistons. I have a lot with a circular depression off center about 2.5 in. in diameter and two valve cutouts. I'm guessing they are standard 944 na pistons. I also have a set with a smaller circular depression, it's about 1.75" and not very deep at all. I don't know if they are '88 pistons or euro pistons. There's nothing that looks like a full part number, but there's a 100 with a 204 under it, and some other numbers. Is there some sort of number decoder somewhere?

As far as S vs S2, the S pistons should be the same size as the other pistons, the S2 or 968 pistons should be 104mm diameter, or slightly larger. I can't help you with the lifters, did you check PET?
