How much have you put into the modification? I haven't heard much of engine swaps in 944's.

Honestly, I've lost count... I'd say about $11K (minus the seats) and many hours. I was at the point of either selling the car for almost nothing and buying a new car that would cost too much for the little it would offer, or put some energy into something crazy. I chose crazy

... yes, the zip ties will be gone soon.

Can you change the plugs without pulling the engine?

Please forgive my ignorance - I don't know american engines that well. Is the LT1 an OHC design, or does it use pushrods from below the head?

In the Chevy world, on only the LT5 ZR1 motor had DOHC. Even the 7 liter 505hp C6 ZO6 engine is a pushrod. So to answer your question, this is a pushrod motor.

I drilled holes in the wheel-wells to get at them. Kidding, yes I can change them, and I can change the belt with a twist of a wrench.

Hacker is right on; it's a center cam/push rod design. '94 (LT1) Has aluminum heads and intake.

Nice job with the V8.

Not so nice job on the public roads. Track's better suited for stuff like that. Care to share how fast you were going?!?

There, I said it. Now where's my nomex suit?

Thanks guys!

I don't know how fast it was, didn't look. It was just an open highway uphill straight acceleration event and didn't last long. It wasn't a, "swerving through traffic on a highway" event, I'm not into that.

My friends 96 Corvette with an LT4 is putting down 350rwhp and over 400lb-ft at the rear wheels with only basic mods.

I must say, we must be maturing as a group. Usually every street racing thread OR hybrid thread turns into a huge pissing match / flame war. Here we have them combined, and the kill was a fellow Porsche - maybe there is hope for us 944'ers yet.
