Default Jacking Up (Not Off)

I know I read this on the board once before, but where do guys jack up the front of the car and where do you place the jack stands. I have read not to use the jacking point on the front of the car and want to know if you guys use that point or someplace else.

You really are only supposed to jack from the midpoints but you can get away with using the front points just behind teh wheel well, the engine crossmember, or the frame rail behind the clutch area if you use a small puck or some other small contact area item to hit the jack points and not the floor aroudn them.... I usually put it on all 4 jackstands if i'm putting them on them at all.

Check out that (if link doesnt work it's jacking at clarks-garage tech section).

To jack up the front I use the crossmember, with jackstands under the control arm mounting bolts. To jack up the back I use the transaxle, with jackstands under the the pivot point (or near it) of the trailing arms.

If I'm only raising one corner, for like changing a tire, I just use a jack on the above mentioned jackstand spot (control arm mounting bolt, or trailing arm pivot point).

Try the search function. I found a great picture of all the safe jacking points some guy had taken and illustrated from a car up on a hoist. Really helpfull.

aforementioned picture. I think clarks garage has some differing opinions, so use both to make your judgement.
