Default Cat-back exhaust vs. just muffler

Is there really much of a power advantage to paying lindsey or speed force racing 800 bucks to get a cat-back exhaust over just getting a 50-100 dollar muffler and paying a muffler shop to weld it on there for you?

mandrel bend or weld?

there's a difference.

i got my exhaust (3") mandrel bent and installed by a muffler place here in sacramento, and their work is great, and i'm surprised anyone pays 800-900 dollars for SFR or Lindsey.

edit- and usually, the catbacks turn the exhaust from 2.5" (or is it 2.75"), reducing backpressure and letting the exhaust flow more freely.

Overall weight savings? The SFR cat-back system weighs less than 15lbs total. The stock is super heavy.

Weight = death. Welding in mufflers alone is basically for those who want a louder exhaust, but it does promote flow to a degree. What helps flow even more is wider piping in the whole cat-back. Toss in the advantage of like 25lbs (?) lost and now we're talking.

The SFR is wider piping all the way back. It did smoothen out the car a bit as well. Can't complain. Some people may say sound is not the reason to change either....but even if i didnt get the benefits of the SFR, i think ide still change for the sound it makes alone! Its worth it!!! However, it does come with a few benefits so im happy either way!

Anyone know how well the aftermarket OEM replacments are built? I've seen numerous cheaper models from Dansk and ANSA, so whats the differance between the $300 cat back and the Lindsey Racing setup?
