968 temperature display in 944 wire up
For those who want to convert their broken clock(or have a stereo with a clock) the 986 temp LCD display is a nice alternative. I have 968 mirrors so I simply used the one already on there. I imagine you could pick up the sensor by its self and then mount it wherever you feel best serves you(including the 944 flag mirrors)
I just ran two 18 gauge wires from the sensor through the door harness and under the dash. I used the existing wires from the 968 temp harness for those two pins. I posi-locked them for easy removal should the door ever have to come off.
You will probably want to cut about 1 inch of the protective plastic sheath around the 944 clock wire harness so that you can better access the wiring. Just use a flat head insert it into the side of the plastic harness and twist. Do this to both sides and the wires/pins will come out.
Of course before you do this pull fuse #11, unless you want to replace it
Also make sure your bulb works before you button it back up.

I'm in the process of doing this as well, thanks Testarossa_td for the great write up.
Here are the part #'s involved:
968 Outside temp display 944 641 223 00 01c $143.76
968 Outside temp sensor 928 641 142 00 $17.50
968 Outside temp harness 964 612 909 00 $12.22
968 Harness Pin 999 652 710 10 $0.14
Prices quoted are from Sunset Porsche as of a month ago. The display has to come from Germany and will take about a month.

Testarossa, I was using these pictures for reference, and I think the picture of the four pins in the connector might not be right. I checked the pin numbers on the clock PCB and it shows that brown should be the lower right pin, not the upper right. The gray should be the upper right pin. Would you mind confirming this? Thanks.

I just switch the display on my radio to show the station or track number so I don't have multiple clocks.
That being said, I'd still like the exterior temp thing.

Two years later and I finally got around to doing this today!
Many thanks to Testarossa_td for the wiring diagram, it worked the first time.
On a side note, I tried to source the temperature harness that Testa mentioned earlier in this thread but despite having a good part number, Jeff at Sunset was no able to find it. I just pulled the wires from the stock harness and attached the directly to the temp display and it works fine.

Nice addition. I never use the clock b/c I have one in the radio. If one of these pops up for sale, I'm going for it!
