When I first got my 85, I found the cables for the remote opener disconnected. I hooked them back up and started having it open up on bumps. They are disconnected again till I investigate it further. The hatch doesn't open on bumps anymore. Just A thought.

Spray a half a can of WD-40 into the reciever holes while repeatedly turning the key back and forth. Once all the gunk is out the recievers should snap back quickly and completely when you let go of the key, instead of slowly and incompletely when they're gunked up. Then they should grab the pins better when you close the hatch.

I'm having issues with my hatch too. I just bought 2 new hatch receivers; they were normally pretty expensive, but I got a deal at my mechanic, so I thought instead of dealing with lubing them, they might as well be new! Gonna get some new struts too.

They have 2 different numbers. I was thinking they are R and L, butthey honestly look identical in every way.

Mine does exactly the same thing. Drives me absolutely nuts. Always makes a hellish amount of squeaking before it pops up, as to really drive me over the edge. I finally just unhooked one of the new struts and it works just fine as an occasional prop rod.

If you get allllllll the gunk out of the recievers and it still pops up, then back out the pin a tiny bit. There are two claw-like mechanisms that grab the hatch pins. One on each side. There are two sides to each little claw mechanism............. [ ( ) ] <--illustration............that catches the head of the pin. Its possible that the hatch is closing enough for half of the claw to grab the pin, but not the other half. When you drive, the hatch can wiggle out. It won't wiggle out the claw has a complete hold.
