Thumbs down LED overhead bulbs

I was messing around with my car tonight and tried out these LED bulbs: 42mm 6 LED festoon bulbs from superbrightleds.com. They were super disappointing....

LEDs:

stock:

Stock is much much better. I can't recommend switching to LEDs. If anyone wants free LED bulbs, PM me.

On the bright side, I got my clock bulb back working. I ended up using Sylvania 2721 bulb instead of a dealer part -- man, what a pain that was...

Have you tried pointing the leds in the bulb? Either way, they won't light as much as the regular bulb since the led isn't omnidirectional, but it may light the area right below it better if "aimed" properly.

Those LEDs in the photo were pointing straight down. Still damn useless!

Did you have to bend the bulb leads around the holder for the clock? That was a PITA but I managed to get it in contact without any solder.

Actually, rather than bending the leads around the holder, I got a tighter connection if you stuff the leads on the inside of the holder. If you bend the leads around the holder, you have either solder it on - or risk losing the connection when you hit a bump.

Forthe clock, I bought the new stock of the same part number from pelican I believe, the bulbhousing was alittle different. Had to pluck the newbulb out and put it into the old housing to make it work.

Joe - I hope you tried to search before you bought. I did a rather large write up about the wedge LED's in the gauge cluster and the combo bulbs for the license plate lights, glove box, and overhead.

Bottom line, it looks decent but provides no useable light.

I did try searching but didn't find your write up. Doh!

But I agree 100% with your assessment -- no useable light.
