Default 968 or 944 Cab Back Seat Room

Looking to add a 3rd car as a companion to my 2001 Turbo Arabelle. We have a local 968 cab for sale and I was wondering how the back seat (after the conversion) room was for 2 children under 10 years old as compared to a 911 cab (911-964 style).

And the same question for the 944 cab guys.

Thanks!

I don't know about a child, but as a guideline -- I'm 5'9" and will fit in the passenger side rear with the top down, if I sit in a fetal position with my head tilted sideways and the front seat is all the way forward.

I have enough room back there for my backpack. I guess a baby is as big as a backpack.

But seriously, I have sat back there before. I was raised in my mom's 944, and I rode in the back from when I was about 8 until I was about 16. I can still sit back there, but I might get claustrophobic. My mom is petit and she fits back there OK for short trips. I think those back seats are retarded, and serve no real purpose but to LOOK like seats.

No one who has owned or know of both 944/968 & 911?

from my experience, neither car has a substantial backseat

however, I'm 6'2, so I really don't fit in either and couldn't tell you much about the nuances in how much each back seat sucks as a place to be.

My Carrera has just about the same amount of space in the rear as does my 944S2 coupe. Assuming the coupe and the cab also have the same amount of space, I'd say you won't have any issues fitting your children back there. I could actually fit a small woman in the rear without many issues other than having to move the front seat forward. Assuming your kids aren't descendants of andre the giant, there shouldn't be many issues. Just throw em in back during the test drive

Actually, the cab has less headroom in the rear, and the seatbacks are shorter.

But even for a coupe -- I think one small person back there is a tight fit, but two?

I don't believe the 968 Cab even has back seats. They just installed a self there.

the 944 S2 cab does have back seats. Infact I know a guy who would take him, his wife and their two boys on Porsche drives (even overnight) in a 944 S2 Cab. Both boys were between 5 and 12 I believe.

1992 968 cabs still retained the back seats. Later 968 cabs came with a storage shelf, but had back seat rests. And I think 'Shark' is considering converting non-backseat 968 cab to backseats.

i can fit me, my g/f, and my g/f's friend in the 944 and the 951 if need be. no one can sit behind me, EVER. maybe a backpack can fit back there, but humans will never fit. my g/f is ~6', and her friend is ~5'5" (not sure, never pay attention), and they fit "OK".

although i'd trade those backseats for storage bins a-la-RX7 any day.

I don't think I've ever seen a 92 w/rear seats, except for one from Canada. The US required a three point shoulder seatbelt, and there was no way to put one in the cab. It's a relatively easy deal to changeover-I did on mine. Usually the seat belt anchors on the outside are still there, order up some belts from a dismantler and drill the car to mount the inside bits. There is a faq on 968.net in the modifications area if you want instructions.

Hmmm... I think you might be right -- I'll have to do more research.

Here's a sneak preview of my recent acquisition. She's a 92 w/ rear seats -- but I *think* it's a federalized Canadian car. The car also doesn't provide CEL fault code (which I think was also US car thing). The weird thing is she's been US-registered since new.
