Default Bad NEW Waterpump? (pics)

UGH, why is life never easy. I took the time to order this stuff early so I would have it all ready to put in... Even emptied my bank account getting a NEW waterpump rather then a rebuilt.

Look in the pics at the chip in the ridge where the large hose goes on.
Is this going to cause a problem and i need to send it back, or is it useable?

Also, what about those dents just up from there, are little abnormalities like that normal, or cause for concern?

Also, is it unreasonable for me to call and request a new one to be sent overnight, with a prepaid return shipping label for this one?
I get like 1 week to work on my car for the spring (break from college) and if i can't get it over night, i basically have to wait until summer. I wish i knew everyone hated vertex before yesterday when I searched motor mount issues.

Interesting, somebody on Clark's Garage posted pics of what I would swear was that exact water pump. Theirs was also new.

They probably wouldn't do overnight with a return shipping label, but if you shipped that one back they would ship you a new one.

Was this from Zims?

No it was from vertexauto. It is a new , turbo, updated pump supposedly. Laso brand?

Would you send this back? Or should i just shut up and use it?

This is going to cost me at least 10 dollars to ship back to them. so much for that excellence deal savings. I shouldve just gotten a rebuilt pump that wasn't beaten up for half the price.

the inside is normal...the end that the hose goes on isn't. that is a cast defect. I would send that back, when and if you need to change the t stat...any prying or wedging may crack that. as far as next day another...do you have the car already apart?

I've had teh car apart for a year lol. But i was hoping to finally put the engine together this week so I could hopefully get it running early summer. It's not the end of the world, but it's really annoying.

Return it. Bad after market casting. If these are all like this stay away from them.

That is a cast defect in a spot that is not critical to sealing. The hose and clamp go way over that spot and it wont be a problem to use it. Save yourself some hassle and stick it on.

Casting defect isn't critical.....you will still be able to use the pump. That small of a defect will not disrupt the stuctural integrity of the pump and as far as your concern with it leaking.....it won't. The mating surface for the hose is above that defect. I've definately seen far far worse looking pumps seal fine in that area.

FWIW,

Duncan

Devon, I had a similiar problem with a water pump from Vertex. I was sent a pump that had the inside of the hole where the thermostat badly scored, and the retaining ring slot was too small. I sent mine back and they quickly shipped me a new one. They were understanding and I will order from them again.

However, from your pics it looks as if you should be fine. (as others have stated)

Send it back. You're paying good money for this stuff. Accept nothing less.

They'll probably give you the line "Oh, you're the first person this has ever happened to."

Thanks for the advice everyone.. Since some of you think it will still seal, i'll probably just put it on. I really don't want to go through the hassle of sending it back and spending the week missing out on working on the car all week.

Dude, I totally know your pain. I have been in school with a car that I work on now for since '99. There is nothing more annoying when a vender screws your timing up. I have also had issues where I have run DEs in less then optimal form because a vendor effed up the shipping after I stated the shipping option like four or five times.

Having said that. Hey all you vendors out there. There really are some instances where timing is critical and not a matter of COVENIENCE.

Have a good break. Mine starts today too. Although I definately won't have time to be working on my car.

Vertex is cool to deal with. I bought a remanufactured one from them that leaked at the bearing like no tomorrow, they sent another one which UPS crushed to unusable form. Even after all that, Vertex pulled through no problem. I sent two bad, newly remanufactured pumps, plus a core back in one box... LOL. Good luck.
