Default Valve spacing on 944 heads

Guys I was curious as to the spacing between the valves on the 944 2 valve engine. If anybody has a spare head and a ruler lying around it would be greatly appreciated if you could tell me the what the gap is between the valves or what measurement it is from centre to centre of the valves.

In mm please.

Cheers Greg

Hosrom_951 thanks for your response, your engine, does it still have the 100 mm bore? If so yes I would like the measurements. It is really the valve centres that I'm interested in. I have a 928 and as such the head has the valves closer together than the 944. The reason was that the 928 had a 97 mm bore. The max valve size you can put in a 928 is 2.08" I'm figuring that it can be bigger in a 944 head.

So maybe the best and easiest way to mearsure it would be from the valve guides. The 928 uses 9 mm valves stems and if you measured from one side to the other I could then do the rest of the calculation. Please just be clear as to how you measured it.

Thanks very much

Greg

Greg, the block is 2.5L, measuring 100.00mm (actually it is tolerance group 1 which measures 100.010mm +/- 0.005mm)

As of now, the springs, guides, retainers are still installed, i am waiting for the valve guides to come in to start disassebling the head.

The gap is between the valves, from the combustion chamber side, is 9mm, here is an illustration (this is not my picture, it is a modified cylinder head, i am giving you what the stock valves read):

Hope this is what you need

Thanks again Hussam, I do appreciate your efforts. I just don't know if I can use these heads, I think the 928 spacing is around 5 to 6 mm. That is from measurements I have made but without the valves. We'll see.

Are you going to the Grand Prix?

Cheers Greg

Greg,
If you have a bit more patience, then sometime by the end of this week, i should have the guides and start tearing down the head, and give you measurements without the valves.

Remember, that measurment was from a 944 Turbo head, not an NA, where i believe the valves are slightly bigger (not sure here).

No, i am not going to the grand prix in Bahrain (which i think you are talking about ), i am not into F1, but more into GT racing
