You know, I've often thought.....what would it cost to have my D-90 centers cut and mounted in a 17in rim. 17x8 fr and 17x10 rr. I would want the front to have an 1-1/2inch lip. The back, a 3inch lip.

What do you guys think.....has anyone seen it done?

There was a 3pc D90 look alike that was made in the early 90's. Im not sure what the sizes were.

Also i know Lindsey Racing does something similar with Fuch wheels, perhaps they can do something with a set of D90's.

This would be for a late offset car ('89 S2) I was hoping for a 15x8 front and 15x9 rear, or 15x8 all around. IIRC, I'm allowed a 245 tire.

How much do the Phone Dials weigh?

Are you sure you can get a 15 inch wheel to fit over the Brembo's?

A 15x7 PD without tire mounted i believe is 20-21lbs. The 16's dont weight to much more.

Who wants 15's.......they had their time. Brake upgrades have pretty much sent them to the curb. Too much tire the side walls too soft.

yeesh, thats not very light at all I was hoping for 16-17lb.
I think the spare is a 15, and it fits.

I have the stock S2/Turbo Brembo brakes and the only upgrade they'll see is better pads and maybe slotted rotors. 15's are good for autocrossing because you put a short tire on them and it gives you alot more gearing advantage, both the wheels and tires weigh less, so theres less power loss through inertia, and more importantly, less unsprung weight. Also, 15" autocross tires cost WAY less than 17's or 18's, and theres not many choices in 16".

So, theres my reasoning, now why can't I get a set of forged Volks or SSR's in 15"

I see your point and it makes good since. How much does the lower tire size increase gear ratio. Obviously it does, but I was just thinking that you would gain more of an advantage with gear ratio changes given the low HP of the 944.

Wouldn't you want to save tire sizing for the fine tuning? You know, diferent tire sizes for different tracks or conditions?

I like my 16" rims...they were an option back then. 17's are too big to me, and mess with the handling--and slow the car down compared to smaller rims!

Plus, NOBODY would steal 16" rims today! So they are safe on my car till I wanna change them (for either 16" D90's, or 16" Phones)!
