If you read his post, the threads are STRIPPED. They were overtorqued. I DON'T use the 90 degree method as its very inaccurate. I did use that method for my first 3 head replacement but when I checked it against a torque wrench at the final setting, they were off anywhere between 10 to 20 percent. I don't care why that happens but all I know is if you have inconsistent torque between the studs at the final setting, the head is not installed correctly. I use 85 ft lb torque for my head nuts and up to 90 if I want to squeeze the head gasket down for a slight higher compression. With the 90 degree method, the torque is close to 85 but not the same torque between the different studs.
