Default First Ever Fuel Rail Ball Extraction!!

I received my new fuel rail and had the foresight to order a nut firm another company. I did not however have the foresight to order a new metal ball. I want to install the rail but don't have the ball. Is there anyting else i can use in the meantime?

Dan

HeHe!, I don't know buddy........butt, I'm proud of the fact your going after it!

Learning, and experiencing! Thats the fun stuff. Thats the spirit!

I'm still a little leary on this "ball extraction" thing though! Sounds painfull!

PS.........if ya need a "ball" or two..........I probably have some "stuffed" away in a cabinet somewhere. Carefull now!

Exactly what did you do to get it out? I have a fuel rail cap with a ball stuck in there, because I overtorqued the cap and took a piece of the rail off with it.

I just sliced the nut down the center with my trusty Dremmel (First pic above) till i was able to break it apart using 2 vise grips. Then I cut it again down the back and used the vise grips again to break it apart. The ball came bouncing happily out. I got impatient and cut too close with the dremmel so i flattened out a few parts of the ball but i think it is still usable.

Friendan - the ball is in the nut to the valve whre you would check the fuel pressure.

Can't you just go to a bearing shop and find a similar sized steel ball?

Whatever you do... Don't leave your car ball-less! Imagine how it would feel!

I'll have a ball taking out my ball this weekend to put a pressure guage on there. I will definitely make sure that I grab my ball and hang on to it and make sure that things don't get outta hand.

In case you ever need to remove the guage it is a good idea to hang onto your ***** and keep them in a safe place!

Putting your ball (or *****) into the glove compartment may be a good idea.
