Default WTB: non-rusted battery plate

Please send me a PM if you have a junker/wrecked 944 that, miraculously, has the battery tray intact. I want to cut mine out and weld in a new one. I know that I can make my own plate, but I just thought I would throw this out there to see if I get lucky.

Thanks,

TD

Go to a junker and find a BMW E30 (85-91). The battery tray in the rear right cubby is very stout and would make a great starting point for a 944 reinforcement job.

OK, I thought I had one, but the deal fell through. Doesn't anyone have a tray from a junker/parts car they could cut out and sell me? Here is a pic of my tray. The yellow line shows the upper "cut" line I would like, and the blue line shows the rust areas.

Thanks,

TD

Thanks Daniel. I know how you feel. The cash should help ease the pain a little, though.

Is it rusted enough to compromise the metal? It doesn't look too bad to me. Mine has a little rust as well, but the metal is not compromised. I'm just going to slap some POR15 in there and move on.

Oh yes my friend, the metal is compromised. You see, that is just the magical mystical quality of my beer goggle girl track car. From a distance, or after several drinks, she is a real beauty, which is all you really need for a race car. As LL Cool J says (paraphrasing), make sure you look close because strobe lights lie.

Put simply, with the hood open, you can see light on the passenger side floor. Also, when it rains or when I wash my car, the passenger floorboard is wet. That's all fine and good, but my battery is starting to move around now. That I cannot have. I really don't want to catch more flack at another tech, so it is time to get the car fixed.

Damn. That sucks.

Good luck. Plenty of cars being parted and run to the shredder. You should be able to find one before long.

The only thing is that i don't want to send the car to the shredder since i was going to sell the shell since it still has a clean title on it.

I have an 87 one that I am in the process of cutting apart to drop the peices off to the scrap yard.. I just need to check if it is rusted, but i am pretty sure its not.. Also, if any one else needs any kind of sheet metal.. claim it and ill cut it!
