Default Bleeding clutch: pedal goes soft when motive disconnected

Hello. The clutch pedal in my 968 has had a tendency not to return the last inch. It's been like this for months. I'm trying to bleed the clutch hydraulics to fix this but there's a problem:

I'm using a motive power bleeder and I can get a nice firm pedal that returns fully. However, once the motive bleeder is depressurized and removed, the pedal becomes soft again and has trouble returning that last inch. Then I have to rebleed it to establish the firm pedal again.

I can leave that motive bleeder hooked up for hours and it maintains the firm pedal, but as soon as it is removed, the pedal softens again. It almost seems like depressurizing the motive bleeder allows air to be sucked into the system somewhere... yet there are no apparent fluid leaks while it is under pressure.

Both cylinders where replaced 3 years ago.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It could be, like you say, drawing air in when you depressurize. Also, don't forget about the freeplay adjustment on the pedal/plunger-to-master cyl.

Anyone know why this would happen with a brake pedal? With the reservoir pressurized the pedal is very hard to pump but with it open the pedal is soft and pumps up to a stiffness that isn't even has hard as the first pump is with the motive hooked up.

Maybe check the return spring in the clutch peddle assembly.

I think you still have air. Raise the *** as high as you can, bleed with pedal on floor, then pull up.

When bleeding with the motive make sure you keep the res very full or you will, Start pushing air. This only applies for the clutch.
