There is a damn circlip at the end of the torque tube shaft. I don't remember how I got it out. I believe I destroyed it since I thought the design was so retarded that I couldn't justify wasting my time on taking it out in one piece.

You must unbolt the bell housing from the motor and slide it back as a unit with the torque tube or remove the radiator, unbolt the bell housing and slide the motor forward.

With the auto... The flywheel will stay with the engine, but the torque convertor with the torque tube.
So, you have to unbolt the hex head bolts that you can see in the starter hole. There are 12 of em.

*This could be the completely wrong way, but this is how I did it.

The torque converter is on the tranny. The dampner plate must be unbolted as described above, but I'm guessing you've already done that.

Everyone above is correct. You must first unbolt the dampner from the flywheel. As described above, do it with the starter hole. Then you have to unbolt the bell housing from the engine. If you don't have the tranny out, it is easier to pull the rad. and pull the engine forward. You don't have to have as much room as you would if you were taking out a 5-speed engine with the bell housing still attached. It is a lot easier, I'm sure you already know, to take the fans and rad out than the auto tranny.
