Default Backseat... into subwoofer box? 944/924

Has anyone taken the backseat out and put a fiberglassed woofer box back there? Does anyone have any pictures of this done?

How hard is it to remove the rear seats?

this is an idea that I've been thinking about for awhile, I didn't do it with my last 944, but I plan on doing it with my 951 (when I find the right one )

i think it would be an idea location for two 10s facing the back of the driver and passenger seats, or possibly angled upward like ~30ish degrees; also I thought it would also make a great place for a couple of amps, you could build in an amp rack to sit on the seats with some breathing room around them and then have the sub box on top...

as for removing the seats, it is fairly easy - in fact there is a right up on just how to do it here: https://rennlist.com/forums/diy-924-931-944-951-968/216274-weight-reduction-project-rear-seat-delete.html

Thanks, that is a good tutorial!

The way it would work would vary completely on waht kind of subs were going in there and how crazy you wanted to get with fiberglass etc, but I think it's an area that gets largely neglected for audio use.

it is quite possible to do this. I did something similiar with the rear seat sheetmetal in a geo storm; although I bonded wood straight to metal after my fiberglass was a spaghetti strainer rather than airtight.

Why? To add weight to the car, or just to keep people from ever sitting back there? ;-)

Well, to have a lil bass for one

Two, the lower on the chassis the weight is, the lower the center of gravity. Alot of people put their systems in the hatch area... If properly tucked where the backseat was it would be below even that. Not too many people are worried to death about qtr mile times... With Porsche it is about cornering, and having a 150lb subwoofer box roaming loose in the back hatch (like a couple 944's i've seen on ebay) is not good for cornering.

Second, having a custom, well concieved mod to your Porsche that few, if any have, is an attention getting addition to your car. I'm sure EVERYONE here drives these cars to be inconspicuous...

yes, actually. Living on/near a college campus this is a must. I challenge you to see a single wire or audio component when my car is parked.

hmm, not fibreglass, but it is in place of the seats

I also made the script 'nocturnal' which you can see, (kind of a theme of mine / nickname etc), and did it in the style of the turbo badge.

I just sealed my spare tire enclosure using a combination of silicone, MDF, and dynamat. Threw my 12" Xtant in there, and covered it with carpet. Voila! Inconspicous, sounds great.. The amp is behind the wheel well.

When I take it to the track, I just pull the sub.

I'm not into that kind of stuff but that's nice looking. Good work.

I have a custom box for the back wrapped in vinyl and it has 1 vega 15" HED series DVC hooked up. takes up almost the whole back. sounds INCREDIBLE (very deep, but not overwhelmingly loud, it rattles your insides and your eyes though) but its just real crisp and low. Im half deaf from it now, so if someone else is interested itll go cheap. shipping would be the killer. quality quality work.

good luck!

i just installed a huge soundsystem, 2 infinity 10.1's attached to an audiobahn a8002t amp (wrong one accidentally, i needed the a8000t) in one 4 hole box to fit my other 2 10" full range connected to an alpine mrv-256. the box was huge and took up the whole trunk. was awesome sound, but then i needed money being a college student, so now its on ebay. haha, but its ok because i'm getting into autoxing anyways! i'm happier this way.

That is a very good point.

Do you have pics of your tricks that you used to hide away your system?
