Question 1988 Turbo s Gremlins, HELP!!!!

I have a great low mileage Silver Rose turbo & really need any help I can get from this forum. I had to replace the DME brain last fall. My mechanic could not pinpoint the reason for it's failure. We did this & the dash lites remain on for the seat belts & airbag. He says that I need a new controller for the belts & bags and we have found a good used one. The problem now seems to be that he will have to disassemble most of the interior to effect the wiring of the new controller. He is suggesting upwards of $1000 in labor alone!

I guess my question is has anyone else experienced this & if so is there any other solution. As you can tell my DIY skills are very limited. My mechanic, Reid Vann in St Louis, is widely considered one of the best in the Midwest.

Thanks for any thoughts.

I'd get another opinion. Even at $100 per hour, 10 hours to get to the airbag ECU? I don't think so.
I've stripped the entire interior of these cars, without destroying anything, in an afternoon. I'd guesstimate a couple of hours to do this.

Other here might know how to reset the airbag light, I'd try that route first.

I am assuming your mechanic knows that you can reset the airbag/seatbelt lights?
