Default Greetings! Introducing another 944 newb...

Gruezi! Just wanted to post an introduction and share my exuberance over my first Porsche. I've been a P-car fan since I was a wee lad (28 now) and finally decided to pick one up. I've been a lurker for some time around the rennlist site, and with my new ride the first 'mod' I made was to finally pay for a rennlist subscription. I also hang on AudiWorld as my other car is a tuned A6 Avant.

It was a hard call as I really wanted a 993, but at the moment I really need a car that I can take out to the track and flog and not feel so guilty about trashing an expensive car. Thus, I introduce my 87 N/A 944...

She had a broken timing belt and thus a full top end rebuild about 2500 miles ago, currently at 155K. Only a couple minor exterior issues, namely one dent behind the passenger rear wheel, a cracked windshield, and some front air dam cracking. Also an ugly Momo wood steering wheel and a split passenger seat cover. Seats are getting replaced anyway, so that's no big deal.

I'll certainly be around in the future asking questions, as this car's destiny is to become a track toy. First up is new tires and motor mounts, and probably control arms. I really need a set of 16" phone dials or maybe some 17" Turbo twists, as there are very few performance tire choices in 15". If anyone has a nice set of rims (for track) that won't cost an arm and a leg, PM me.

Also need to know a good DE suspension setup (yellow Koni's? what spring rate?) and also am curious whether aftermarket A-arms like the Racer's Group models are worth the premium over a new set of OEM aluminum arms.

Thanks, and we'll be seeing a lot more of each other...

Yep, wooden Momo! Will be replaced by a suede wheel soon, at least I have the adapter needed...

Just got off the phone with my tuner, and have 4 Yoko ES100's in 225/50/15 en route. The tires on this thing are VERY dangerous, old and bald. After reading this forum it sounds like the ES100's are a good intro tire for HPDE days.

Well..
these cars do very well on stock 15x7 Phone dials and 225/50 R15 toyo RA-1.

The RA-1 is "race tire" so going with the ES100 in that same size for starting out is a great choice.

all 944 spec cars run on 225/50 R15's.

For suspension check the tech section of the 944 spec website http:\\944spec.com

This where we spec out a pretty basic suspenion that works great for track cars. Especially for stripped out ones, but also for street driven full weigh cars too.

PS... Greg Fordhal is up in Portland I think and knows quite a bit about track prepped 944's.
