Usually the Fuzion ZR-1's are narrower in the thread width but the same in the section width. Personally I love these them, great dry and wet performance. Due to the rolled edges I was able to run 275 and 255-40/17 without clearance issues. The ES-100's would have been carving up the fender lips both front and back in that size. I'm not as concerned about actual tire width after after premature edge wear on the ES-100's on the 83 but the ZR-1's are like new on my Turbo and I'ver had them over 20 months now. YMMV

The Fuzion had a more radiused edge resulting in less tread width compared to the ES-100 with a square shoulder.

For instance on my 275/40-17 Fuzions the section width (sidewall-to-sidewall) is 11" and the tread width 9.5" The same sizes in a ES-100 would be 11.1" and 10.7" respectively. That makes the ES-100 1.2" wider on the pavement but only .1" wider overall. The x-tra tread width doesn't always equate to better performance, especially in the rain. I'm disappointed in the ES-100 as far as tire wear, mine absolutely sucked and were 75% worn at 8K miles, that doesn't cut it with me at all. The excessive wear was at the edges where they are wider than the Fuzions but was very obvious.

Thanks for the explanationi. all clear now. going to be a tough one. I have a thing for tires and love the way wider tires look.

I ordered a set of 4 255s for this spring. I'll let you know how they work as soon as the weather warms up here.
