Battery cable question
'87 951 Does anyone know why the cable coming off the alternator goes to the starter first, and not directly to the battery? I'm rewiring the charging/starting sytstem and was just wondering. I'll be wiring the alternator directly to the battery. Thanks.

I spent a couple hours trying to find an answer to this same question. I tried researching and thinking about it logically. However, I couldn't come up with any definite answer as to why. The only idea I personally had was that it would reduce the wire clutter even though it is two wires that end up being longer than one straight wire from the alternator to the battery. I believe these two wires are directly attached so that eliminates any ideas about the starter somehow breaking the circuit.
Anyways, I've read a lot of people wiring straight from the alterator to the battery with success. I can't really imagine what wrong could come out of it.
