Wish we had a definition of "bad engine."

That could turn out to be a steal!

Kevin,
Here is a perfect car for your wife. You shouldn't have sold that 951 engine or we could be doing a swap this summer. Feeling lucky?

Wow...I wish I had an extra 10k lying around...for that car thats 20 minutes from my house! I'm sure tracking down a decent 3.0l wouldn't be terribly hard.

I don't know what "bad" means, but lets assume worst-case and the engine AND head are only good for paper weights or boat anchors. Another 968 3.0 motor is going to be $4K+ used unless you get very lucky. So then we are already at $10K if you do all of the work yourself. Unless the rest of the car is pristine, its not worth it. There are some decent higher mileage 968's running around that can be had for less than $10K easily (like the one that Ted the ex-mod just sold).

Now, if someone had a 951 motor laying around, or found one at a decent price, that could be interesting and worth the effort.

Anyway, its worth it for someone local to take a look at it, there's nothing to lose there.

There's nothing more expensive than a cheap Porsche.

Math like that caused me to sell the firebird. I guess that is what 30 years of experience will get you. too bad i didnt just buy a Z28 or 69 TA in 79 instead of make the fiebird "right" from 77 to 79.

I dunno - that aluminum head may not hold up too well in salt water...

Like stated above, the most expensive Porsche to buy is a cheap one...unless you've got a spare engine lying around.... (And I happen to know someone with one of these buggers)
