the one missing has been missing since i've owned the car, and the one im holding was just lying along side the head, not connected to anything.. obviously it doesnt make the car not run... but it might explain why it choked sometimes on start up for a few seconds... where are these suckers supposed to connect up to? thanks

one comes from the smog stuff on the rear driver side to the nipple. the second goes from the nipple to under the throttle body, where you'll find a nipple for it.

Thermoswitch for the cooling system.

Seriously look into replacing that pipe which the switch you're holding screws into. Mine was nearly rotted through when I pulled the head. It was a perfect time to get a new pipe, and now I'm not worried about it making pinholes or blowing out. You can't replace it without pulling some things on top of the engine, so it's a good time. I remember it being expensive (no news there) and nobody having one on hand in the US, but I still think it's worth it.

The line you are holding goes to the throttle body. There are two ports on the TB. One port goes to the Fuel Pressure Regulator and Pressure Damper, and the other goes to the thermo-switch. Make sure the FPR/Damper line is connected to the rear most port on the TB, and that the line to the thermo-switch is connected to the front most port on the TB.

If you get these reversed the fuel pressure will always be too high, and the charcoal cannister with always be purging.

The other port on the thermo-switch goes to one of the purge control valves that are mounted on the driver side fender.

They were connected when the car came off of the factory assembly line. Unconnected it will affect the cars fuel/air mixture. Cause it to run lean and over heat if not burn up a piston or two.

Well, not really. The fact is, the purge port on the throttle body is very small, and since it is positioned just about the throttle plate seat, the vacuum that is developed at this port is very small (about 5"Hg), and is only there for a very short time just as the throttle plate is opening from idle. Consequently any "vacuum leak" here would be very small and only intermittent.
