This is intersting, I didn't know the manual specified that. I've got steel lug nuts, but I use the factory locks (the updated ones with the 993 part number). I've been putting the lock closest to the valve stem because it's lighter than the steel lugs, so I figured this would even it out a least a little.

Yeah, the spec is for factory lugs, so in your situation, that seems like the right thing to do. Really though, the tire is balanced with the valve stem, so the weight is accounted for.

is there a problem if you undertorque ur lugs? (i dont have a torque wrench so i tighten until i cant turn it anymore)
You can EASILY put more torque on a lugnut by hand than even an impact gun. You should be able to quite easily torque to 96 ft/lbs. Hell, if you are strong you can probably snap wheel studs by hand with only a 1 foot bar.

I don't use my wheel locks - they are just a pain. Between DE and AX, I wind up swapping my street / track wheels about 20 times a year... Then again, in this day and age of "bling" I douibt anyone wants my beat-up, finish chipping old 16-inchers...

Z-Man, you would be suprised who wants the wheels on our cars. I went to a local 'car show' that gave the 2Fast2Furious vibe to me. Alot of imports really. I had four shady people come up to me and ask about the D90's on my car, what sizes they were and if i wanted to sell them. Most of the 16-inch Porsche wheels are sought after with the Volkswagen crowd. Mind you, these were some pretty shady looking characters. I dont mean to be stereotypical, but not the kind of people i would want to let learn where i live, less i find my car on cinder blocks the next morning!

Jon -
Understood. Since my 944 isn't my daily driver, if I feel the need to visit a 2F2F area, I take my crappy Subaru. Most of the time, my car's either sitting in my garage, on the track, or somewhere in between! I do take it to work occasionally, but considering my parking lot has a lot of security, and a lot of more impressive machinery, I'm not worried there either.

Great! Now next time I take my car anywhere, when I get back to it, it will be sitting on 4 cynder blocks!

Thanks for the prompt response, folks. PPI went well - bought the car, which is at a local independent P-car specialist for all of the usual front-of-the-motor stuff. Hope to start enjoying it soon! Lots of questions to come......
