Question Power window mechanism ¿Anyone replaced the plastic guides?

I've located the part numbers for the plastic guides that make up the power window mechanism and I'm about to attempt doing this to see if it will correct an inoperative window mechanism.

The motor works, but the glass pane rocks left and right and gets stuck.

Your help is much appreciated.

Luis, the old plastic guides just pop off the ball that they fit to and the new ones just snap in. Of course you need to remove the mechanism from the door.

Luis, Did you check the felt guides in the tracks??? If it is rocking left and right, the felt channels that the glass rides in, must be gone.

What felt guides? Are you implying I need to replace the rails?!

Nope, the rails that the glass rides up and down in, have felt liners to keep the glass from bouncing around and flopping left and right.

I didn't see felt liners anywhere in the PET diagram. Do you have any part numbers for that stuff or where can I find them? I am in Europe, if that helps.

Luis, it looks like the Cabrio uses (2) of # 941 531 530 10. This is the felt-lined rubber U channel that fits inside the metal guide that the window edges fit into.
There is only one (1) pictured in PET but it would need two. I'm looking at illustration 804-15 in PET.

Have you had the panel off the door and taken a look inside?

The reason I ask is that it is common for the rear guide rail to break off and fall off down into the bottom of the door. It is only tacked on there in two places (one top and one bottom) and comes off easily. This happened to me and it caused the same symptom you are talking about. The fix was to re-attach the rail with rivots.

Are the window tracks and the felt liners the same with the cab, as with the hardtop????

Yes, I have, and posted about it to another thread that didn't get very far. I guess I'll have to take a closer look at the PET diagram, if in fact the felt parts are replaceable inserts.

How the heck do I do that, though? Remove the whole regulator assembly and take out the pane? Thanks again. This is such an annoying problem. My father uses this car daily and I've already had the door panel off but can't isolate the problem.

When i first got my car i had problems with the pasenger side window and what i found was that the rail itself become detached and had to be rewelded.
