Default Shock/strut identification help

This is a picture of the top of the front suspension strut on my son's 85.5, 944.

What shock/strut is this? Is it stock?

I've never worked with this type of shock/strut before? What can you tell me about it or please point me to a site that might explain how to R&R this.

Clark's describes how to replace struts, but doesn't describe sealed vs cartridge type (or at least I didn't find it). With the screw on end is this a cartridge type?

Thanks,

Hank

Looks pretty normal to me, except for the cardboard.
Head over to Clark's garage, click on Garage Shop Manual and click on front strut. You'll need a spring compressor.

Ok, I looked again at Clark's, I wasn't looking at the diagram at Clark's close enough. Looks like we have a stock strut with replaceable cartridge.

So, I should be able to use this adjustable Koni 8641-1038S as a replacement? What's the diff between the 1038S (sport) and 1038?

thanks,

Hank
