Drain Plug Broke Off Inside Radiator
Hi Gang,
I'm looking for info from you guys so I can know where to set my level of paranoia. This is for a 1986 944 NA.
My blue radiator plug (driver's side, back bottom of radiator) broke off while I was driving, leaving part of the shank in the radiator, resulting in a slow leak. It was broken such that no part of the shank was protruding, so I tried to remove it and it popped into my radiator. Fluid started flowing out so I put a new plug in which stopped the leaking. So now I have half the shank of my old blue radiator plug captured inside my radiator. What kind of problems can I expect?
Thanks,
Paul

yikes.. can you ease it out if aligned properly? Back it out with something? I would think it has to come out so you get proper flow..

I wouldn't sweat it.
The broken piece is in the side tank, and it is not small enough to block a tube, and if a tube did get blocked you wouldn't notice any significant change in the radiator's efficiency.
Besides, the only way you can get this piece out of the tank is to either take off the side tank (which basically destroys the radiator), or try to break the "big" piece into smaller pieces, which would be an easy task.
