Default OT- sticky the carfax rule?

Can we sticky the carfax rule? i swear i've seen 10 threads this week just between OT, 924/931/944/951/968, and the 944 Turbo/TurboS forums closed by mods from people that dont understand that you cant ask for a carfax report. not everyone reads the charter.

it's usually really new registered users that are just looking for a p-car and are new to RL.

maybe put it in capital letters at the forums entrance, lol.

or maybe add it to the sticky that John D has at the top of the tech forums.

just a suggestion.

mexican, out.

CarFax reports in unaltered form can be copyrighted and should not be posted or requested. The raw information in a carfax report is public record and cannot fall under the CarFax copyright.

If someone needs some "information" on a specific vin number, and someone else has access to such "information," I don't see why it would be infringing on CarFax's intellectual property rights for the data in base form to be posted.

So.. that's my take on it. Just don't mention the whole "CarFax" thing when you make a request and don't post using the CarFax lingo when posting such "information."

Oops, I guess I've been guilty of this twice. I had no idea. How recent is this? I did it over a year ago.

So, if it's illegal I'll be sure not to ask again

i dont think it's "illegal" it's just that John D doesnt want to have to deal with it if Carfax themselves get something stuck in their craw.

Imagine losing rennlist over someone's carfax report

Last time I read the charter was years ago. I found out the hard way recently.

John D. makes the rules, so be it.

I see. Well, this is the first I have heard of not asking for carfax's, and I will not ask for another. Thanks for the heads up

this reminds me of when people were posting the pet manuals. perhaps we should develop a secret code.

how does "i am looking for some background on a vin. what do you know" sound.

this way i can run a carfax and tell you if you should get a subscription. or maybe we should have a section in the members only section for members to help each other check out cars they are interested in.

or maybe john should get a deal going with carfax where he raises the dues say $20 a year, and for the 20 extra you get say 10 carfaxes a year.

or maybe, just maybe...

Sounds good. How about when someone types "Tom is an A$$" followed by a vin then we know what they are looking for?

Substitute: "Hey I need a carfax report"
With: "Hey man, do any of you have any rolling papers?"

Substitute: "Can anyone make me a copy of their PET and burn it on disc?"
With: Ive got a fever for the Aerobie and it just won't quit."

Oh rock..... oh dear.
I agree with a members-only idea here, perhaps in the OT forum?
Before I buy a car, I always run a car-fax. Why should I spend $20 when it's free for somebody else?
