Just a quick aside here. About a month ago the 924 made eBay's "hot" list. This means items that show an increase in listings AND an increase in number of bids that is larger than the number of new listings.

Perhaps people are looking for an affordable entry into the collector car market. With silly money being paid for the usual list of cars, 924/944/968 series cars look like a real deal right now.

This is true. I read the article in Excellance magazine about 928's and was left the impression that it was a good "buy". It warned about expense and maint. But everyone here knows how much fun these cars are to drive, so it's a good deal to get in at entry level, rather than 50+K for a new Boxster.

Anyone notice that the well-done rods on BJ bring some nice decent change? Applying that logic, this 924 needs a nice big 'Vette V8 under the hood and a Carrera-GTS-ish body kit, a good paint job, and a nice set of wheels. Then it might fetch some decent $$. Plus be a hoot to drive.

Have you priced out 928 parts lately? Do that and then compare to 944 parts. You may not believe the excellence article very long. You might actually be better of buying the Boxster...or better yet leasing one.

Three years in my new gto lease will cost me a lot less than three years in my used red S2 cost me. plus the leased car has less down time. same goes for cost per mile even if i only put 10k of the allowed 12k a year on the gto it will cost me less than half per mile than the S2 cost me.

Excellence was wrong and so are you.

I had 928s since '98. The parts are about the same as for the 944. There are vendors that sell new original or OEM parts for alot less than the dealer. The same vendors sell good quailty used parts too. Keeping a half descent 928 on the road is not tha big of a deal, as long as you don't start with a POS. The sectret is the same as for the 944....do your own wrenching and the maitnance cost are minimal.

I'd be happy to be wrong about 928 parts. I stand corrected. But I stand by my lease comment.
