I am stripping the interior out of the '83 for track use and I want a clean/simple look. I want to get all the fuzzy insulation stuff off of the painted metal in there. I plan on going to Wal-mart this evening to pick up some odds/ends and wanted to know if there is anything likely to be there that I can use for this purpose. I need it to be relatively safe so I don't kill off the last couple of brain cells I have limping along, but I don't want to be in there for 24 hours trying to make it work either...............any ideas?

Not one that is good on your brain cells...but really quick: Mix 2/3 white spirit with 1/3 technical spirit (the red one)... then wipe off like it was dirt off your windshield.
For some reason neither of the spirits work efficiently alone...but when you mix 'em,the contact cement used just melts...

Cool, I will try that - I do have a organic respirator as well as a fresh air supply respirator that I could use while I'm in there.

Yep, what George said. The 3m stuff is pretty much the bodyshop standard. I've also heard that Goof-off (Walmart, etc.) is good but I've never tried it. Have fun. ;^)

First of all, shame on you! Walmart! You have no morals!...or your really cheap!
.
Next of all, since WHEN, are ANY chemicals like this "safe"?
Geo looks like he's got the best solution so far! Your not gonna find products like that at any "Wallmart" type store, at least, nothing really worth using. Big boy stuff is only at the big boy stores.![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
SEE!!.........All them chemicals, have gotten me! Be safe!....read labels....enjoy!

i too have the 3m adhesive remover, it does an alright job. i was trying to use it on my hood for the insulation... and i just gave up because the hood was on the car... now that the hoods off though, cleaning it sure would be cheaper than a new pad... hmmm...

I don't think any thing is going to take off well cured adhesive very easily. Not even powerful paint remover and all the mess that goes along with it. Depending on the thickness of the adhesive you might try an eraser wheel if you don't get satisfactory results with something else. It works on the adhesive left on after one removes the sidemouldings or trim on some cars. You can burn through the paint if you aren't careful though. And you can't get down into corners very well. I don't think there's a magic bullet unfortunately.;^)

Wurth Contact/Circuitboard Cleaner is a fav of mine. I get it through the motorcycle dealership I work at, but have seen it at independant contractor type hardware stores as well.

I used a product called Un-Goo, made by Core Products. You want something in a spray bottle so you can soak the vertical surfaces. Plan ahead, soaking an area about an hour before working on it. Dwell time is your friend. It worked pretty well, then used mineral spirits to clean up the residue. Definitely smelled though, and I got loopy a few times working on it. Took probably 30 hrs. or so to clean off all the adhesive on the interior.

Basically you need tolulene to loosen glue. Make sure you avoid skin contact as absortion is 100% and goes to your internals, not so good. And have good ventilation or do it outside.
