Default Oil Pressure Sender Tests?

The car is new to me, but the the OP gauge bouces a lot at idle when the engine is warmed. I think it's just the sender.. I read about this a couple of weeks ao but can't find it again.... If you disconnect the sender, the needle is supposed to "peg" or something. Anyone know the test and what it's telling me? Gauge works fine under accelleration and when the engine is cold and the oil is thick.

Thanks
