I've had this intermittent problem for well over a year but the light seems to be staying on more often now.
My engine feels fine to me so that's why I'm not too concerned. It idles as it has been, around 950RPM.
Is it just a bad oil pressure sending switch or could it possibly be something that I should look into further?
BTW, one of the wires going to the sending switch is not connected as the PO broke the post on the switch & I can't connect it without replacing the switch.

While your engine is probably OK right now, 944 engines really don't react well to a low motor oil level condition.
The fact that the engine oil light will come on when your oil level is low is one of the best reasons that I can think of for getting the sensor working correctly. It may save your engine one of these days.

I only put about 5K on my car a year and it doesn't use much oil. The last Mobil 1 oil change that I did was August of 2004 and haven't added a drop since then. I usually don't bother to check it very often but I did check it today and since Aug. of '04, it was down around 1/2 -3/4Qt. I just topped it off and I don't see an engine light anymore.
Time will tell since it's always been an intermittent problem. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

There's a little sticker inside your gas filler cap/lid that reminds you to "Check Engine Oil" or something to that effect... My "!" light also came on once added a litre and it was good. Are you referring to the oil level sender on the oil pan or oil pressure sender near oil filter?

I wasn't aware that there was another sensor that monitored the oil level....
